Not an ice hockey player? We'd recommend you come to our general come-and-try session instead.
Floorball ACT would like to invite all past and current ice hockey players to come and give floorball a go at this free session!
Floorball (also known as innebandy, salibandy, or unihockey) is a high-speed, low-impact indoor sport. Established in the 1950s in the USA, and then re-developed into an ice hockey training game in Sweden in the 1970s, floorball has spread to over 75 countries, and is a prominent sporting code in Scandanavian and Central European countries.
During this special 90-minute session, Floorball ACT members will provide a structured introduction to the sport from the perspective of ice hockey players. This will include:
- Equipment overview
- Skills
- Similiarities & differences between ice hockey & floorball
- An extended scrimmage match
Floorball ACT will be able to provide all necessary equipment - all you will need to bring is:
- Clothes & shoes suitable for indoor sport;
- A drink bottle.
Why should you try floorball? There's plenty of reasons!
- Floorball emphasizes skill over sheer speed or strength - it's a great way to refine your stick skills;
- The absence of ice removes the requirement for skating skills, which helps to remove barriers to entry to new players;
- A lot of the skills and game-play tactics are similar between the sports;
- The equipment outlay is significantly reduced - most field players simply need a stick;
- It's a great off-ice workout!
