August 2021 Canberra lockdown

Published Thu 12 Aug 2021

As you are likely already aware, a seven-day lockdown has been declared for the ACT, starting at 5pm this afternoon, Thursday 12 August. This post is to give you information on how this lockdown affects Floorball ACT operations.

Annual General Meeting 2021

The 2021 Annual General Meeting will proceed as planned this Saturday 14 August at 10am, but online via Zoom. Members will receive a separate notice announcing this change, and providing them with the necessary details to connect to the meeting.

Please come to the meeting if at all possible so you can find out what’s happening with floorball in the ACT. Sadly, it’s not like you’ve got much else to be doing…

Winter Series 2021

Winter Series 2021 is postponed until further notice.

There are three rounds left to play (two regular rounds plus the finals round). We will endeavour to complete the competition as soon as we are able. However, there are several factors which mean we can’t tell you when that will be yet:

  • We do not know if the lockdown will only last the initial seven days, or if it may need to run longer;
  • The ACT Government’s lockdown plan indicates that there may be a post-lockdown period when community sports are only permitted to run small training-type activities;
  • Other sports have major events booked at Tuggeranong Archery Centre (TAC) for some weekends in September, and we do not know yet if those events will be impacted, cancelled, or moved to another weekend. This means we are not certain when TAC will be available for us to resume competition play.

You may have noticed that the yet-to-be-played rounds have been hidden from the Revolutionise website to avoid any confusion. We will be in contact again when we are able to provide more certainty about when we can start playing again.

Should the post-lockdown settings and TAC availability permit, we may look at running a couple of Saturday morning training sessions while we await permission to resume competition play. We’ll provide more information as soon as we have it.

Term 3 Juniors Program

The Term 3 Juniors Program is postponed until further notice.

As described above, due to the vagaries of when/how the ACT comes out of lockdown, we are unable to provide a definitive date for when the Juniors Program can resume. However, we would note that Juniors would be able to return before Winter Series as it is a training-type activity, with no competition for the court availability on Friday afternoons.

Your wellbeing

This is the first lockdown in the ACT since the original stay-at-home orders at the very start of the pandemic. We’re aware that this may be upsetting for many people. If you are feeling at all stressed, sad, or anxious, we encourage you to seek out support from your friends, family, or any of the following services:

We look forward to seeing you back on the court when we’re allowed to start up again. In the meantime, listen to ACT Health, stay home whenever possible, wear a mask when you have to go out, and wash your damned hands.
