Restarting after the 2021 lockdown

Published Wed 13 Oct 2021

Barring a deterioration in the COVID-19 situation in Canberra, we will be permitted to resume playing as of Friday 29 October 2021. This article is to provide you with important information about how we plan to restart floorball.

Your membership

As a result of not being able to play for a period of 11 weeks, the Committee has decided to extend all Floorball ACT memberships which are, or were, valid at any time between 12 August 2021 and 29 October 2021 by 11 weeks. This extension will be automatically applied to all eligible memberships.

If you renewed your membership during the lockdown period, you will still receive the extension. If your membership expired without your renewing it during the lockdown, it will reactivate for a period. We will send a further update when the extension has been applied to eligible memberships.

Winter Series 2021

Due to the time that has passed since the last Winter Series 2021 round, the Committee has decided to abandon the remainder of Winter Series 2021. Further details will be sent in a separate email to players who were registered for that competition.

How we restart

We intend to begin playing as soon as possible. However, we will begin with limited-numbers free training sessions on Saturday mornings, moving into Summer Series 2021-22 by mid-to-late November. This is for a number of reasons:

  • We are still confirming venue availability with TAC;
  • We feel it is necessary to give players some practice time before asking them to resume playing a competition;
  • We will require time with access to TAC to ensure all of our equipment is in place and ready to go to start competitions again.

Dates and timings for both training sessions and Summer Series 2021-22 will be released on our social media channels and our website (https://www.floorballact.org.au) once confirmed.

Vaccination

In accordance with ACT Government advice, there will be no ‘vaccine mandate’ applied to participants in Floorball ACT activities at this time. However, the Floorball ACT Committee strongly encourages all members, supporters and their families to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The COVID-19 vaccines available in Australia have been proven to be safe, and highly effective in both reducing the spread of COVID-19, and significantly reducing the risk of serious and life-threatening disease.

COVIDSafe practices

Despite the very high vaccination rates expected to be achieved in the ACT, COVIDSafe practices will still be required for some time to come. These practices include:

  • Wearing a suitable face mask indoors at all times when not playing, coaching, or refereeing;
  • Wiping down all shared equipment (e.g., borrowed sticks, substitution benches, score desks etc.) after use;
  • Limiting interactions between yourself and people involved in other games or sessions (i.e., get in, train/play, get/out);
  • Maintaining physical distancing (1.5m) whenever possible off the court.

More detailed COVIDSafe instructions will be released before play resumes.
